About a year ago I went looking for a decent, free Mahjongg Solitaire game to download, and I realized that all of the good ones cost money. So Jeremy and I thought that maybe someone should write one that's free and doesn't suck. Someone being us. It's called Ivory Mahjongg, and is available for Windows and MacOS. Now, I can only take credit for the look of the game, and the website design & markup; all of the programming was Jeremy.
The goal of this game was to make a feature-simple app without the usual cheesiness that Mahjongg games tend to have (although we did put in a fortune cookie/quote upon winning a game). There's no jangling music, no scenery backgrounds, and fairly low-key sound effects. One nice feature of the game is the ability to tilt the playing surface to better see the stacking of the tiles.
There are two tile sets in this first release: a classic Chinese character tile set and then a modern typographic one (for type nerds like me). Hint: if you're new to Mahjongg the typographic tile set is a bit easier to spot the pairs in. Be sure to consult the help if you don't know how to play.

Nice work, guys,
I love mahjongg, and was addicted to playing it on on my mac IICi (about 10 years ago). I recently became reacquainted with it when I put Vista & Parallels on my MacbookPro.
I’m looking forward to trying your version out.
I got totally addicted to mahjongg back when I used to work graveyards as an operator at TELUS. It was the kind of thing I could do and take calls at the same time, and I’m sure I looked like an uber nerd sitting in front of a desktop computer with a laptop perched next to it.
My best score was 1:04 minutes, on Kyodai Mahjongg, and I doubt I will ever duplicate it…

So you’re only taking credit for all of the good parts? :-P
Well yeah, pretty much. Anything that’s wrong with the game is unarguably your fault.
