While I’ve only ever been a lukewarm fan of the music of Nine Inch Nails, I have a tremendous amount of respect for Trent Reznor and his business model. Today he announced the release of his new album with the following note attached:
“thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years - this one’s on me.”
Not only is the album completely free, but it is being released in a variety of formats (including lossless torrent downloads) under the Creative Commons “attribution non-commercial share-alike” license. From the site: “we encourage you to remix it, share it with your friends, post it on your blog, play it on your podcast, give it to strangers, etc.”
And for people like me who devour the NIN album art, a printable PDF of the cover art, the track listings and the individual track artwork is available for download.
On an interesting and related note, Metallica (who previously sued people for copyright infringement and embarked on a crusade to shut down Napster) is considering following NIN and Radiohead in releasing their tracks for free over the internet. Also of note, I think Lars Ulrich …

The Ivory website has been live for just over a week now and I have to admit, watching the Google Analytics is totally addictive. I mean, look at this! I think we may reach 800 hits today, and so far for the week we have 6300 pageviews. That's double what we had yesterday.
Ever since we submitted it to coolosxapps.net a few days ago it's gone quite viral. Gotta love the internets. Just wait until we submit it to the Apple Downloads website, we'll see what our hosting can handle then…
Interesting fact: We've had more hits from Italy than any other country. Made it onto one relatively prominent site there and hit the jackpot.

Oh wow. Check out this Flickr set by the Library of Congress. Absolutely fantastic photographs, and if you follow the links through to the persistent LoC page for each image you can download the high res digital scan.

As someone who’s had to struggle through HTML email support creating email campaigns for clients, I think that this is a good thing.

Here’s kind of a cool website. It’s called Ffffound and from what I can gather it’s basically social bookmarking of interesting images found on the internets.
