See? I really did go to the Grand Canyon. I also finally got around to putting some of the trip images on Flickr, and added them to the Grand Canyon microsite that was formerly a rarely updated blog. Now I think I’ll just let the pictures speak for themselves instead of a bunch of boring writing.

Just donated $50 for this book by photographer Iain Crockart. It’s a photobook of his motorcycle adventure across the Himalayas, and all of the money from the books goes towards his Enduro Africa charity ride in Africa in October of this year. Just wanted to give him some link love as I had thought I lost the link and couldn’t find it through Google, not remembering Iain’s name or the name of the charity ride.
If you’ve got a few bucks laying around, the book is available for whatever amount you have, as the printing was donated by Quadracolour, London. You’ll get a nice book and help out children in Lesotho and South Africa.

So, we’re heading to the Grand Canyon in 2 days. I’m incredibly excited, because although it’s the same distance as the Yukon trip, this one is packed with way more sights, and about 80% of the landscapes we’ll be traversing are completely new to me. I’ve actually started a blog just for the trip, but it will be interesting to see how much connectivity/desire to post I’ll have while I’m travelling. At the very least I’ve unprotected my Twitter and I’ll probably be using that the most.
If you’re at all interested, stay tuned! I’ll have access to a laptop and occasional wifi the days we’re in hotels, so I hope to post some images as well. See you on the other side of the canyon.

This is why you don't travel at 120mph on a motorcycle. The amazing thing is that somehow this didn't kill him. Natural selection isn't perfect…

I found out recently that Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman just completed another epic motorcycle road trip from Scotland to South Africa. Their first journey was back in 2004 when they rode around the world in 115 days on two BMW R1150 GS bikes. They filmed the entire experience and made a TV series called Long Way Round. It was a fantastic show, and I’ve watched it all the way through several times. It was funny, poignant, dramatic and suspenseful, and you don’t have to be interested in motorcycles to enjoy it. It’s a DVD box set that’s well worth checking out, and I can’t wait for the next series, slated to come out in October.
