Archive for ‘randomness’

I suck at the internet.

It’s true, I do. Lately I haven’t really posted at all, and I just haven’t wanted to. Admittedly I spend very little time on the computer of late when I’m not at work. But I’ve also been very busy at work and just have very little desire to be on a computer when I don’t have to be. I’m also very behind on my internets and I’m sure you’re more up-to-date than I am, so I can’t possibly enlighten you on anything new. Google Reader only tells me when I have 1000+ unread feeds, so I have no idea what the actual number is.

Seriously though, no one even reads this thing. So it’s not like I’m letting anyone down!

Here’s an oldie but goodie

Beaty logoBack when I was working a contract stint at Karo in the summer of 2006, I was asked to come up with a logo for UBC's Beaty Biodiversity Centre. It might have just been make-busy work because I don't even think we knew for sure if we were giving them a rebranding, and looking at their website it's still their old logo so I guess it never did go anywhere.

Anyhow, the idea here was to create a sort of yin-yang feel while representing a large land mammal, a fish, a plant and an insect all inside one circle. It was definitely a fun little exercise in illustrating for me, and I just stumbled upon it in some old files.

Fillings are not awesome

Last November, for the first time in over 10 years, I went to the dentist. Not going had finally caught up to me and I had my first ever cavities. Finally last week I got one filled on the right bottom side of my mouth, and then today I got the other side done. Not bad, really. I managed to make it 29 years without having a filling, and if I had been going to the dentist all these years sealant would have been enough to keep cavities at bay. D'oh, oh well.

Also not awesome: unknowingly chomping down on the numb side of your mouth and not realizing it until you notice your toast tastes like blood.

Here's to 29 more years of no cavities! (maybe?)

In the works…

I’ve realized lately that part of the reason that I don’t post very often is that I’ve actually made posting a bit of a hassle with the way I’ve structured the site. In my pursuit to have an ultra-clean homepage I think I sacrificed some things that make the site more usable, and make posting easier for me. So I’ve begun a rethink of the structure of the site, and invariably probably some design changes as well to facilitate this rethink. I’ve had a few good suggestions from people on new sections to implement and I’m taking all of these things into account as I determine the best way to stay motivated to continue updating & posting.

Stay tuned…
